Parent Testimonials

Rula Bagaeen - Parent Qatar Academy Doha 2014- 2018

It is true that the most important factor that determines the quality of our children's

education is the quality of their teachers.

My daughters are lucky with the quality of education and the great teachers they have

at Qatar Academy Doha; yet the characteristics of Mr. Egan who taught my elder

daughter Humanities and Cultural Studies were outstanding as he worked tirelessly

to create a challenging and nurturing environment for his students. He continuously

set for them high expectations which were achievable through the clear objectives,

engagement and the sense of community and belonging that he created in the classroom.

Mr. Egan has broad knowledge of the subjects; he is always accessible, enthusiastic

and caring and such qualities and skills aid the students in achieving their goals and

love learning in a disciplined approach.

As a parent; I enjoyed communicating with Mr. Egan via emails and through the

parent-teacher conferences as the specific solid feedback ensured that alignment is

achieved to steer my daughter into achieving her assignments with the higher possible

outcome.

Kristy Finlay - Parent Qatar Academy Doha 2014- 2017

Jason Egan is one of the finest teachers my daughter has ever had. She found his lessons

to be challenging and stimulating, and he created a wonderful classroom environment

where the kids felt very secure in taking risks in their learning. My daughter loved Mr. Egan

because he truly cares about his students and their wellbeing. His calm manner and his

compassion helped to settle them down when they were feeling overwhelmed and stressed

with school or with the ups and downs of adolescence! He has a wonderful sense of

humour and he made the curriculum fun with creative projects and different ways for

the students to show their learning. Even after she and her friends finished Middle

School, they would go down to visit him as they really missed not seeing Mr. Egan!

Lana Abu Shanab - Qatar Academy Student 2014 -18

Mr.Egan has a way and style of teaching that is suitable

and great for us. He helps explain work to us, provides

assistance when needed, and is overall a great teacher

who supported our learning all year long. Mr.Egan has

so much interest and knowledge on the subject that it

fascinates me. It was a true pleasure being in his classroom

and being exposed to his extraordinary style of teaching.

Christine Taqtaq - Qatar Academy Student 2014 -18

Mr Egan taught me for two years in both subjects, humanities

and cultural studies. Sadly, he hasn’t been able to move up

again to teach us in high school and I miss him and his

classes but from time to time, I go for help or just to

have a talk. He is such generous teacher with great teaching

skills and has taught me a lot but has also made all his

classes I went to exciting no matter how boring they were

supposed to be. Jokes were always thrown around the class

at appropriate times, he is very chill and makes everything

fun. He also always shared many examples with my

classmates or just himself which I still remember till this

day and sometimes we played games related to our topics.

You also gave us the freedom to stay in your class during

breaks and lunches. Not to mention, the tasks you gave us

were always simple and even if they were tricky, you were

always walking around the class making sure that we were

on the right track and guiding us with feedback. I wish you

were my teacher Mr Egan for any class, all of your students

miss you. Just keep rocking on and dabbing :)

Samar Abdulrahman Siddig - Qatar Academy Student 2014 -18

Mr. Egan is one of my favourite teachers that I will never

forget and remember every single time I go to my humanities

class and wish he was my teacher instead. If I were to talk

about him from today til tomorrow I wouldn't finish. He

teaches us in a very interesting way and adds humour to

his teaching which makes it very enjoyable. Also the way

he organises the class is not boring so we learn but through

activities and a variety of other ways. Not to mention that he

is also an expert on the topic we are learning about and is

very useful to ask. His advice is also quite helpful and easy to understand. I personally enjoy Mr. Egan's classes and will

always miss them.

Khadija Elmagarmid - Qatar Academy Student 2014 -18

Grade 8 Humanities was surely something to remember

and will always be in my mind as the best year. Not because

of the topics or the subject but because of the teacher that

I had. Mr. Egan was one of the best teachers I had in middle

school. I can also say that even after I left his class, he is still

so much fun and I can go to his class when I'm bored and he

can make me laugh. Whether it be by making jokes or

dabbing out of nowhere. I can certainly say that humanities

with Mr. Egan was a class I looked forward to having during

the week because of his amazing attitude and his personality.

He inspires me to be the best I can be and work hard to

achieve what I want.

Thank you for being the highlight of my middle school

experience.

Student Testimonials

Rose Whittingham – Teacher St Ignatius College, Riverview Sydney.

(Bundaberg North SHS student 1999-2002)

Jason Egan played a fundamental role in my own decision to become a teacher. His positive

reinforcement and guidance (through a wonderful classroom environment, feedback and

teaching style) spurned a love of history and English and facilitated my growth as an average

student to an A standard. His pastoral care also had a significant impact on me in those

fundamental years; his even handedness of discipline and encouragement in the classroom

led to him becoming a positive role model in a time when, otherwise, I would have had none.

His influence continues today as I measure the example I set for my students, the discipline

necessary for a cohesive classroom and the compassion needed to form a genuine rapport

against his teaching practices.

Sam Hodges – Teacher Bundaberg Christian College, Bundaberg.

(Bundaberg North SHS student 2001-2005)

When reflecting upon my high school years and the teachers that had the most impact

on my life I can without a doubt say that Jason is at the top of my list. He was my modern

history teacher and rugby league coach. The most valuable subject I took in high school

that has had the most positive impact on my studies and career was modern history. It

was in Jason’s class that I started to see that there was more to the world than just my

own circle of friends and family. Through his teaching I became more aware of social

justice issues and that a lot can be learnt from history to help make a better future.

Through the two years of being in his class room I became more globally minded and

held less of an egocentric point of view that most teenagers have. This has helped me

to become more engaged in society and to not just accept things the way they are but

to ask why and formulate ways to bring about change.

Out of all my teachers he managed behaviour the best. His expectations were always

clear and he dealt with any issues in a consistent, fair but firm manner. Jason uses many

particularly engaging teaching strategies that develop higher order thinking and I particularly

like his cooperative learning strategies/activities. He is a very knowledgeable, engaging,

fair and honest teacher who cares about his students and pushes them to achieve their

best. Though not explicitly taught he implicitly taught me respect and integrity. It is clear

these values and beliefs form the backbone of his character and they came through in all

aspects of his teaching and professional relationships with his students. Jason was also

one of the best rugby league coaches I have had and he taught me to be humble in victory

and gracious in defeat. While completing my degree in teaching I was often asked to reflect

on my own high schooling experience and examples of good teachers. Jason would always

come to mind. He embodies the attributes of what an outstanding teacher is and as a one

of his past students, a training teacher and now as a beginning teacher he has been a great

role model.

William Holloway – 2012 Bundaberg North SHS School Captain.

(Bundaberg North SHS student 2008-2012)

Mr Egan has been our leader in the Anti Bullying Committee in the last two years. During

this time our relationship has moved from teacher-student to something more. He is

respectful and motivating. I will never forget my time in his classroom in Year 10 History

and Legal Studies. His classes were interesting and positive. They were good times.

Doug Brown – 2012 Bundaberg North SHS Student Council Executive.

(Bundaberg North SHS student 2008-2012)

Mr Egan is an outstanding teacher and has been a favourite teacher of mine for the past

few years. His confidence in the classroom is fantastic and you can feel very safe knowing

that he knows what he’s talking about. His presence and the way he teaches the class is

very fresh and engaging. He always keeps the subjects he’s talking about very interesting

and actually really makes you want to learn, which I find much harder in other classrooms.

He is such a brilliant teacher as he makes all the facts clear and understandable while also

making it fun and enjoyable to learn and talk about. It is always a fantastic class lesson

with him.
